Among the beautiful Names of Allah are Al-Jaleel (The Majestic), Al-Kareem (The Most Generous), and Ar-Raqeeb (The Ever-Watchful). These magnificent Names reveal Allah’s perfect majesty, boundless generosity, and constant awareness of all that His creation does, whether in public or in private.
Every one of the Names of Allah is a manifestation of His greatness and perfection. Reflecting upon these Names guides people to worship Him and strengthens their connection with their Lord. Since hearts are in need of enlightenment and guidance, scholars have devoted great effort to understanding and explaining the Names of Allah and their profound meanings.
The Meaning of Allah’s Name Al-Jaleel (The Majestic)
Allah says in His Noble Book; Surah Ar-Rahman: 27:
”And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.”
(وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ)
The Name Al-Jaleel (The Majestic) is one of the beautiful Names of Allah. Although it does not occur in the Quran in this exact form, the Quran mentions the expression ”Dhul-Jalal”, which carries the same linguistic and religious meaning. Dhul-Jalal means the Possessor of Majesty and Greatness. Allah is perfect in His Essence and in all His Attributes, and this is reflected in His beautiful Name, Al-Jaleel. The majesty of Allah, Al-Jaleel, is manifested in His perfect Essence, His magnificent Attributes, and His perfect Actions. He is perfect in His Essence, and His true reality is beyond the comprehension of human minds. All of His Attributes are perfect and magnificent, and they are unlike the attributes of His creation. Likewise, all of His Actions reflect His absolute wisdom, perfect power, and complete authority over His creation. Thus, the Name Al-Jaleel encompasses the perfect majesty of Allah in His Essence, Attributes, and Actions.
The Meaning of Allah’s Name Al-Kareem (The Most Generous)
Many Muslims find comfort and reassurance in Allah’s Name, Al-Kareem (The Most Generous). They turn to Him for help, mercy, and provision, trusting in His immense generosity and abundant grace. His Name Al-Kareem (The Most Generous) brings joy and happiness to the hearts of His believing servants through His countless blessings and generous gifts.
Al-Ghazali said in Al-Maqsad Al-Asna fi Sharh Asma’ Allah Al-Husna:
”Al-Kareem is the One who forgives when He has the power to punish, fulfills His promises when He makes them, and gives beyond the utmost expectations. He does not concern Himself with how much He gives or to whom He gives. If a servant turns to someone other than Him with a need, He is not pleased with it. When He is wronged, He admonishes but does not hold the matter against His servant. He does not abandon those who seek refuge in Him and turn to Him. He makes them independent of means and intercessors. Whoever possesses all these qualities without effort or pretense is the Absolute Kareem, and this belongs to Allah alone, Glorified and Exalted be He.”
Allah, the Exalted, says:
{وَمَنْ شَكَرَ فَإِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِهِ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ رَبِّي غَنِيٌّ كَرِيمٌ}
“And whoever is grateful, it is only for his own good; and whoever is ungrateful, then surely My Lord is Self-Sufficient, Most Generous.” (Surah An-Naml: 40)
Allah is Self-Sufficient and in no need of His servants or their worship. He is Al-Kareem, the One who is inherently Generous and Noble, even if none of His creation were to worship Him. His greatness and majesty are not dependent upon anyone. Allah’s servants are constantly surrounded by His countless blessings and generosity, day and night. No generosity can compare to His generosity, and no favor or gift can equal what He bestows. Everything we see throughout the universe is a testimony to His immense bounty and kindness. He gives without measure and continues to shower His creation with blessings, even when some people deny or fail to appreciate His favors.
The Meaning of Allah’s Name Ar-Raqeeb (The Ever-Watchful)
Ar-Raqeeb is one of the beautiful Names of Allah, indicating His perfect awareness and constant watchfulness over His creation. Nothing is hidden from Him, whether it is apparent or concealed, and He knows every word, action, and thought. He watches over His servants, knows their circumstances, and never overlooks anything they do.
The Name of Allah, Ar-Raqeeb (The Ever-Watchful), is mentioned three times in the Noble Quran. Allah, the Exalted, says:
{إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا} (An-Nisa:1)
And He says:
{وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ رَقِيبًا} (Al-Ahzab: 52)
And Allah, the Almighty, says:
{وَكُنْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًا مَا دُمْتُ فِيهِمْ فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيْتَنِي كُنْتَ أَنْتَ الرَّقِيبَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ} (Al-Ma’idah: 117)
Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, watches over and preserves everything. He knows and is fully aware of all things, both apparent and hidden. Nothing about His servants is concealed from Him—their secrets or what they reveal openly, their outward actions or their innermost thoughts. Nothing, whether small or great, escapes His perfect knowledge and watchfulness.
Al-Qurtubi said:
”Ar-Raqeeb means the One who watches over all things. It is one of His Attributes, connected to His perfect knowledge, hearing, and sight. Allah is watchful over all things through His sacred knowledge, which is untouched by forgetfulness. He is watchful over all that can be seen through His sight, which is never overcome by drowsiness or sleep, and He is watchful over all that can be heard through His hearing, which perceives every movement and every word. Thus, He watches over all things through these Attributes. Everything, from the greatest matters to the smallest details, as well as all that is hidden in the heavens and the earth, is under His complete watchfulness. Nothing is hidden from Him; rather, all that exists is equally encompassed by His watchfulness, which is one of His Attributes.”

Al-Jaleel reminds us of Allah’s perfect majesty and greatness, Al-Kareem teaches us to recognize His countless blessings and limitless generosity, and Ar-Raqeeb reminds us that Allah is always aware of us and watches over everything we do.
