Al-Khaliq (الخالق) – The Creator

    The Name of Allah, Al-Khaliq (الخالق), means the One Who brings everything from non-existence into existence. Allah is the One Who creates all things from nothing, with no precedent. He creates whatever He wills and does so in a perfect manner. He alone determines when, how, and what to create. The Name Al-Khaliq (The Creator) is mentioned 11 times in the Holy Quran. For example, Allah says in Surah Al-Mu’minun, verse 14: “So blessed is Allah, the Best of Creators” (فَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ).

Allah creates from nothingness, whereas man can only invent or produce something from what already exists. This Name also reflects Allah’s ability to change the state of a thing from existence to non-existence and from one form into another. The ability to create requires complete control, perfect planning, and absolute determination, ensuring that nothing deviates from the course Allah has decreed. Allah’s creation is a manifestation of His perfection. When the heart is filled with the realization of submission to Allah, the Creator, it will also be filled with fear of Allah.

Al-Bari’ (البارئ) – The Evolver / The Maker

    The Name of Allah, Al-Bari’ (البارئ), The Evolver / The Maker, means the Creator Who has the power to bring entities from one state into another. Allah is the One Who decrees things to exist out of nothing in a specific manner. He creates something that is completely new or brings forth something from what has already been created. Whatever Allah creates is perfect and free from flaws, and His ability to create is unlimited.

You may see an ugly creature and think that such a thing is far from perfection. However, even its ugliness was created within a perfect and wise system. Remember what Allah says in the Holy Quran, Surah At-Tin, verse 4: “It is the work of Allah, Who perfected all things” (صُنْعَ اللَّهِ الَّذِي أَتْقَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ).

It is very important that we train our minds to accept whatever Allah has created and have faith in His ability and might. Also, all inventions nowadays are based on what was previously created.

 Al-Musawwir (المصور) – The Flawless Shaper

    The Name of Allah, Al-Musawwir (المصور), The Flawless Shaper, means the One Who forms His creatures in different forms. Allah brings into existence whatever He wills and in whatever manner He wills. The Shaper is the One Who gives different things their distinct forms, to the extent that if you look at two different creatures, you could never imagine that they were created by the same Shaper, Allah.

This Name of Allah is mentioned once in the Holy Quran, in Surah Al-Hashr. Allah creates a system for everything, then determines its colour, form, and structure.

So, What Is the Difference Between These Three Names?

    Some scholars distinguish between these three Names (Al-Khaliq Al-Bari’ Al-Musawwir) and say that Al-Khaliq (The Creator) is the One Who created all creatures that exist from nothing, according to their decreed qualities. Al-Bari’ is the One Who brings creation into existence in accordance with what He has decreed, while Al-Musawwir is the One Who creates various forms and shapes. Thus, Al-Khaliq is a general term, Al-Bari’ is more specific, and Al-Musawwir is even more specific. Contemplating the Names of Allah helps you grow closer to Him. How can you love Allah if you do not know His Names and Attributes? A believer who reflects on these beautiful Names recognises the greatness of Allah’s creation and His perfect wisdom in every detail. Allah is the One Who creates, brings His creation into existence, and fashions each creature in the most suitable form. May Allah help us understand His beautiful Names and live according to their meanings.
