Allah says in His Quran,

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ”

”O you who believe! Seek help through patience and prayers. Allah is with the patient”

In this Aya, we are told that we should seek patience along with prayer, as patience deals with the moral act while Salah (prayer) is the physical act. With these two acts, Muslims get more stronger in facing challenges and calamities. The prayer reminds us of Allah, and that Allah is decreed this destiny for you. They both connect the pious slave His Creator. Patience and Prayer grant Muslims peace, tranquillity and complacency. So what are the virtues of prayer and patience? Is there one type of patience or many types.

Prayer (A-Salah) is the best of deeds after Shahada, Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “One of the best deeds is to offer Salat (prayer) in its early time.” It is the greatest pillar in Islam. It is also a reason that your sins will be forgiven and erased. The Salah keeps you away from indecency and doing wrong. Your prayer is your gate to Jannah, your key to be saved from the punishment of the grave. When you pray you thank Allah, you fight your desires and haram wishes by Salah. You dedicate your heart, body and mind to do the five prayers everyday.

Allah promises to be with those who persevere through trials and tribulations, as He said ”Allah is with the patient” What a great reward you get from Allah when you be patient, you will be under the protection of Allah. Allah will preserve your mind and soul to feel strong before your hardships. These hardships can be financial difficulties, illness, and loss of loved ones. In this case, we turn to Allah, the All-Wise, Well-Acquainted with all things. Your soul will be enlightened with the Light of Allah, and Muslims become more powerful and determined. Also, there is an incomparable and magnificent reward from Allah for the patient, that Allah said ”And Allah loves the steadfast”, imagine that Allah loves you, you win this life and the afterlife.

There are 3 types of patience, the patience required in order to fulfill the commands of Allah. The patience required to abstain from the prohibitions of Allah. Finally, the acceptance of the decree of the Almighty when calamity comes in our direction. All of these types of patience need a strong Iman and trust in Allah, that Allah would never decree a destiny just to harm His slaves and that Allah wants the best for us. Remember these Holy words that can heal your pains and suffering in this life and repeat it as much as you can

Our Lord, pour down patience upon us, and strengthen our foothold, and support us against the disbelieving people

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
