As the Book of Allah is an honor, it requires us to uphold the highest standards. It is with sincere concern and love that we point out a few matters that have been observed among some of our dear teachers, so we may collectively foster a spiritually uplifting and professional learning environment.
Do List
- Wear modest clothes that are suitable for teaching. Your outfit should reflect professionalism and respect for the Qur’an. A tidy appearance sets a good example for students and shows dignity in conveying the message.
- Choose a quiet and tidy place for the class. The background should be neat and ideally a plain wall. If that is not possible, use a calm virtual background.
- Keep your camera on during class, as it is important for clear communication and helping students learn correct pronunciation.
- Ensure good lighting to enhance communication and attentiveness in the class.
- Sit upright in a proper posture and keep a suitable distance from the screen. This shows professionalism and also protects your physical health in the long term.
- Keep your phone on silent and only answer in emergencies. Try to avoid distractions during Qur’an classes, including browsing the internet or checking messages.
Don’t List
- Do not wear clothes that are too casual or not suitable for a teaching setting.
- Don’t sit in front of mirrors or visually distracting backgrounds. These can divert the students’ attention.
- Don’t join class from unsuitable places like public transport, cafés, or noisy streets.
- Sit up straight and don’t lean or lie down while teaching.
- Don’t leave the camera off during class unless there is an urgent excuse.
Additional Guidelines:
- Test your equipment before class: Make sure your camera, mic, and internet connection are all working well.
- Have your materials ready: Be prepared with the Qur’an, lesson plan, and any needed tools before the session.
- Be spiritually prepared: Begin your day and class with du‘a and intention to serve Allah sincerely.
- Be a role model in speech and mannerisms: As a Qur’an teacher, your attitude should be a reflection of the Qur’an’s teachings.
- Maintain punctuality: Respect the class time and model time management for your students.
